On September 29, 2020, Rotary International recognized the Rotary Club of Western Forsyth with the Rotary Citation award for its accomplishments during the Rotary Year 2019-2020. Representing Rotary International, Julia Donahoe stated that the Rotary Citation is the most significant award a Rotary club can achieve.
The award was presented by email to Gene Blackwelder, president of the Rotary Club of Western Forsyth during 2019-2020 on behalf of the club. Gene indicated that the local club was thrilled to be recognized for their achievements and said that it was a special year for the local club with everyone in the club engaged and pulling together for our projects. He further stated, “Our service committee planned and delivered a service project in the community every month. Our Youth Services committee developed relationships with four different schools supporting the Food Back Pack program at Lewisville Elementary, a Student of the Month and college scholarship for Winston-Salem Prep, a Boys to Men Leadership Club and Girls on the Run Club at South Fork Elementary and a Leadership workshop for the Winston-Salem Street School. Our sold-out Comedy Roast of businessman Mike Swain attracted a lot of attention in the community for our club and all of these activities helped us attract new members to our club”. Current president Andrea Misel indicated that the club is continuing to work hard to make the community a better place to live.
